Finish strong

After God gave Gideon a calling to save Israel from Midianite oppression (Judges 6:14), He led Gideon and just 300 men to a miraculous victory over a vast Midianite army. Though the initial battle had been won, the mission wasn’t yet complete. Gideon and his men were still in pursuit—exhausted, but determined to finish what God had started through them.

“Gideon and his three hundred men, exhausted yet keeping up the pursuit, came to the Jordan and crossed it.” Judges 8:4 (NIV)

There are seasons when weariness feels like a constant companion—when the battles stretch on longer than expected, the opposition feels unrelenting, and our strength seems to run out long before the journey ends.

Gideon knew what that felt like. He and his men had already defied the odds, obeyed God in the face of fear, and watched Him deliver a stunning victory. But even after the initial triumph, the work wasn’t done. There were still enemies to chase down, still ground to cover. The fight wasn’t over.

Scripture says they were “exhausted yet keeping up the pursuit.”

That one line captures something worth noting: Obedience doesn’t always come when we’re energized and ready. Sometimes it happens when we’re running on empty, leaning hard on God’s strength, and still saying yes to what He’s asked us to finish.

In those moments, quitting may seem tempting. But God doesn’t call us to finish in our own power—He equips us to endure through His.

If you’re feeling worn out but still following where He leads, you’re in good company. You’re not alone. And your exhaustion doesn’t disqualify you from the victory—your perseverance, even in weakness, is part of what honors Him.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,” Hebrews 12:1 (NIV)

Keep pursuing. Keep believing.

Strength will rise, and the finish is still ahead.
